The Column Project
Preferring to have four columns on the front porch, we paired two salvaged fluted columns with two replicated mahogany turned and carved columns. This left six salvaged columns for the back porch.
Restoring columns can take a team, including your architect to establish scale, a wood restorer and an artist who can replicate the column using a lathe and hand carving. The result adds history, visual authenticity for the age of the house, and imperfect details that just look better.
Snow eagles project
There were antique bronze snow eagles in early photos of the house. Six remained, a couple turned up in the garden and four more were purchased at auctions. To complete all sides of the house and barn, we replicated sixty more and the impact is awesome. In this case, more is more!
The Fountain Project
Salvaging this fountain rates high on the list of best projects EVER. Its innate beauty, the jingle the water makes hitting metal, and making a focal point in the yard are equally satisfying results.
Garden Gate Project
Who doesn’t dream of having an antique wooden garden gate? Once this pair caught my eye, I knew what the spatial design called for.
Saving a painted floor Project
Painted floors are common in old houses but I wanted something more interesting so I painted the yard birds. When we finally could restore the bathroom, which meant gutting it, I wanted to save the painting. With a patient contractor, and some touch ups, it makes a very cool wall installation for a bedroom.
As an artist who has painted floors, walls, stone and extensively in digital media, I can design and/or create wall and floor coverings for you in a range of styles.
Baluster and Pipe railing projects
Balusters and pipe railing were used along roads early on and now add charm if placed thoughtfully in gardens or landscapes. The simple design of these salvaged cast iron balusters enhance the country setting for a house built in 1785.
Antique doors projects
Using salvaged doors adds texture, beauty and just something different to a room. They are immediately available, may need a little adjusting but their character and craftsmanship become focal points you will love.
Lamps & Lighting projects
Lighting creates depth and design in a space. Salvaged lighting is a spectacular opportunity to influence your space with unique objects and results.
When you have one element of a fixture, like the post but not the lamp, finding the right companion is a treasure hunt that can lead to unexpected combinations.
Salvaged furniture projects
Planning where you can utilize hutches, cool armoires and other unique storage pieces can be a total money saver and the result more interesting. Since many have shelves or glass, it provides an opportunity for showcasing unusual or special objects, reinforcing a curated and personalized space.
We did not have a mudroom, so adapting a primative cabinet simplified storage for my saddle, boots and the things that collect around a back door. The seller used the pine from the back of the piece for the extended sides, keeping the siding consistent!
